MTN Funchat allows subscribers to chat with each other using a unique username  that they create. Subscribers can select who to chat with based on location, sex or age or a combination of all three.

HOW TO START

Subscriber sends CHAT to 33117 @ N10 and gets a return message detailing how to register “Welcome to FunChat, to register reply R#Username#Location e.g R#baby girl#Lagos to 33117 and follow the instructions. “.
 

HOW TO REGISTER

Registration requires the following information.

§  A Unique username or ID,

§  Location,

§  Age,

§  Sex

Subscriber sends a text in the following format:

R#Username#Location
E.g  R#Elizabeth#Lagos to 33117

Subscriber gets a return message with the following details

‘Your username is Elizabeth . Reply R#Age#Sex to 33117 e.g R#32#Female’

Subscriber sends a text to the shortcode in the following format to complete their registration:

R#Age#Sex
E.g. R#32#Female to 33117

Subscriber gets the following return message

“Registration Successful” For help, text HELP to 33117. Chat now with any of the users listed below. Reply with their username#message....”

TO CHAT WITH OTHER SUBSCRIBERS

Subscriber types the unique username of intended chatmate, then # followed by message and sends the text to 33117 i.e Username#YourMessage to 33117

E.g “Adamu#Hello Adamu” to 33117

Subscriber gets a return message notifying him/her that their message has been sent to recipient

TO FIND SUBSCRIBERS TO CHAT WITH

Registered subscribers can search for others to chat by the following combinations:

To search by location, Subscriber sends “LOC#Location” e.g. “LOC#Enugu” to 33117
search by age, Subscriber sends “S#age” e.g. “S#27” to 33117
search by sex, Subscriber sends “S#sex” e.g. “S#male”or “S#M” to 33117
search by a combination of age and sex, Subscriber sends “S#sex#age” e.g. “S#m#27” to 33117

INVALID KEYWORD USED

If a registered subscriber sends an invalid keyword to the shortcode, subscribers gets the following return message:

“Invalid keyword used”. To register text r#Username#Location; follow the instructions, To chat with other users text Username#Message, to search Text S#sex#age or loc#location, to hide ur ID text H to 33117”

If an unregistered subscriber sends an invalid keyword to the shortcode, 33117; Subscriber get the following return message:

“You are not yet a registered user of this service. To register text r#Username#Location to 33117 e.g R#Chris#Lagos”

If a registered Subscriber sends a blank message to the shortcode, 33117; subscriber gets the following message:

“You can not send empty message to users. To chat with users online text Username#YourMessage to 33117. e.g Bobby#Hello Bubby”

TO EDIT PROFILE

To change User name; Subscriber sends “user#new username”, e.g “user#omolara” to 33117
To change Location; Subscriber sends “Location#new location”, e.g “Location#abuja” to 33117
To change Age; Subscriber sends “Age#new age”, e.g “Age#24” to 33117

HIDE CHAT ID

To hide chat  ID, Subscriber texts “H” to 33117

UNHIDE CHAT ID

To unhide chat  ID, Subscriber texts “H” to 33117

TO EXCHANGE PHONE NUMBERS

By default, sending of phone numbers via funchat is disabled. To be able to send phone numbers to other chatters via the service, subscriber needs to chat for a minimum of 5 times in a day

Q. How much do I get charged

A. It is FREE to receive messages from other Chat members and cost 10 Naira to send messages to other chat members 5 Naira for those on MTN Pulse.

Q. How do I find new friends on Chat

A. There are many commands allowing you to get new list of members. i.e Send ?? to 2428 to get a fresh list of chatters. Thanks!

Q. I never get a response from another chat member whenever I send them a message

A. Usually it’s because u didn’t type the nickname correctly or the user changed the nickname. Send ?? to get a fresh list of chatters.

Q. People send numbers to me but it looks edited/scrambled

A. The sender needs to have sent a minimum of 5 messages in a day using the service before they can successfully send their numbers across
